Fiddler Takes Round #1
The first round of the 2013 Stoney Lonesome Harescramble Series was held on Saturday April 27th with the threat of rain forecasted during the Big Bike race. Fortunately, the rain stayed south and saved the racers from what could have been miserable conditions. The PeeWee bikes hit the track first with 11 riders wanting the first win of the season. Blake Fleetwood was on a mission in the Pre-mix class as was Hagan Weidersatz in the Injector class. Weidersatz charged hard throughout the race and actually won the overall PeeWee by less than one second on adjusted time. The Mini race consisted of 27 racers in three rows. Dawson Dunnuck took the Super Mini and overall win followed by John Henry Robinson and Riley Walsh. The 85CC class was the largest of the three and provided some good competition. Lance Maschino struggled on his first lap, but gained control and rode consistently and fast enough to take the 85CC class victory followed by Clayton Ferguson and Ryan Sacco. The 65CC class saw Ethan Sowder battle with Colton Beavers on the first lap, but Beavers dropped out leaving a clear path for Sowder to run away with the win. This Big Bike course covered over 7 miles on the property and had 112 riders in the field. Jake Fiddler followed on Jeff Cregg's wheel the entire race and made a last lap pass during a hill climb and held on for the victory. Luke Chilman took the 3rd spot in the AA class. The race went well for some and not so good for others. Some unintentional mix-ups early in the race required the use of the woods check transponder scoring system. Unfortunately, this caused confusion and frustration for many involved and was difficult to work through. The club will be reviewing all aspects of the event and working to understand what can be done to improve the situations that can occur during a race.
